Friends of Wilderness Battlefield works on a number of fronts to fulfill its mission of providing advocacy, educational programs and service projects for the battlefield.

Education and Outreach

  • Living History programs are scheduled at Ellwood throughout the year illustrating fascinating accounts of civilians and soldiers of the 18th and 19th centuries. Learn more.
  • Tours by Appointment:  Welcome by prior arrangement are private tours of Ellwood Manor, the grounds and/or the battlefield for school groups, civic clubs and others.  Click ellwood@fowb.org and use category 'Ellwood Private Tours' to email for more information.
  • Speaker’s Bureau:  Speakers are available to provide presentations related to Ellwood and Wilderness Battlefield to civic groups, clubs and other organizations in the region. Presentations can focus on a number of different areas, tailored to the particular group’s interests.   • Membership:  Join FoWB
  • Heritage Programs: FoWB has developed two heritage programs designed to recognize and honor people who have direct ties to the Battle of the Wilderness or Ellwood.
    The Wilderness Brigade consists of lineal and collateral descendants of participants in the Battle of the Wilderness.
    The Ellwood Legacy consists of lineal and collateral descendants of people who lived, visited, or worked at Ellwood prior to the National Park Service ownership in 1971.

Publications

  • The Wilderness Dispatch, the organization’s quarterly newsletter, includes news about FoWB, Ellwood and the battlefield, as well as upcoming events.
  • The FoWB brochure details information about the organization, its activities and the Membership Program.
  • The Ellwood and Wilderness Battlefield rack card offers information regarding visitation.
  • The FoWB Annual Report,  produced in November of each year,offers  a summary of activities, board member profiles and financial statement. Read the annual report.
  • The FoWB Website has undergone an extensive redesign and provides a wealth of information.
